Our Approach to Vein Problems

First we perform a careful history and physical examination.

Then we will order any diagnostic studies appropriate, such as venous reflux testing, colorflow venous duplex examination, and laboratory studies to look for underlying thrombophilic conditions, if warranted.

We then see you back in our office to go over the results of the studies and formulate a plan designed specifically for your unique and particular venous problem.

Cosmetic Problems

For patients with spider veins on their face we utilize the Dornier 940 nm (nanometer) laser, usually with a 0.5 mm spot size. A single treatment is usually all that is needed.  Spider veins on the legs are treated using compression sclerotherapy and the laser depending on the size and color of the veins being treated.

Symptomatic Venous Problems

For patients with symptomatic large vein disease, we can often perform the ELT procedure (Endovenous Laser Treatment), thus avoiding the necessity of doing a vein stripping.  If we do a vein stripping, we employ the PIN-stripping technique of Oesch, rather than using a large stripper.  Microphlebectomy removes clusters of veins by means of a tiny incision and a specially designed Varady vein hook.
