Spider Veins

Another name for spider veins is spider telangiectasia.  Arachnophobia is the fear of spiders.  Most of our patients aren't afraid of spiders.  They just don't like wearing shorts when spider veins are too obvious. Spiders can be very tiny and thread-like.  &, they can be larger.  They can be bright red or they can be blue or purple.

Another type of vein is the reticular vein, which is bluish, deeper than spider veins, and often "feed" the spider vein.  A commonly seen reticular vein is the (lateral) Vein of Albanese. These veins need to be treated or else the spider veins cannot be reliably eliminated.

Spider veins on the nose, cheek, and chin are easily treated with our Dornier 940 nm (nanometer) laser using a 0.5 mm spot size.  These usually respond to a single treatment.

Leg veins are treated with a combination of compression sclerotherapy and laser treatment, depending on the size, color, and depth of the vessel being treated.

To facilitate the accuracy and precision of sclero- and laser therapy, we utilize a unique polarized light system manufactured by Syris.  It incorporates 3X magnification and polarized light and lens system.

Here is a photo of the headlight with magnifying lens:

By using the polarized light and lens we can eliminate the reflection from the skin surface and see the spider veins much more clearly.  Below is an example of the kind of visualization that we can get with the Syris.
